eating and Shopping
Eating and shopping, or shopping and eating are pretty much musts in Singapore. And this is pretty much how I spent my time on Sunday.
I woke refreshed around 9. Edwin, Edwin's sister, Wai Yee, Richard and I went out to Toa Payoh for a Tim Sam breakfast which included porridge, dumplins, pork, banana, bacon and other random foods which were slightly confusing to my admitedly westernised tastes. But over all I did enjoy it.
It was then on to Sing Lim Square for a spot of shopping. I bout CDR media and a USB thumb drive for pretty competitive prices.
We grabbed a coffee at Berger King (blush) and then wondered through the "Kuan Yin birthday celebration" crouds before catching the Rapid Transit System (train) out of town. Before heading home for a quick shower we visited "Mr Bean" which is an amazing little shop which sells some of the best little pancakes I have ever tasted.
This evening we met with more friends of friends and had dinner at the YMCA of all places.
. This is the first time I have been into a YMCA anywhere in the world. I am sorry to say I couldn't resist the urge to mouth the classic Village People hit under my breath. lol
We rounded the day off at the famous long bar at Raffles where I was treated to a Singapore Sling. (Audio to follow).
Five Star Chicken
Yesterday evening, Richard, Edwin, Wai Yee and Jaffar and I went out for food and a couple of beers. We ate at a place called Five Star Chicken Rice. Asians have a much more communal way of eating with everyone sharing the food which is placed in the middle of the table.
Before coming to Singapore I was under the impression that there weren't many places where one can smoke. Richard and Jaffar both smoke and it didn't seem to be a problem smoking outside the Five Star Chicken or at the Georgia's Bar where I made short work of a couple of Tiger beers.
There's a funny story about my been desparat for the toilet on the way back, but we're off out to breakfast and don't have time to tell it.
All the best from a very hot and stickie Singapore.

In singapore
It's Saturday evening and I have met with Edwin and Wai Yee and the guys in Singapore. I still have one or two audio clips to upload from Australia, and they should appear shortly.
It's pretty warm here compared with Aus, 29 degrees C and it's feeling a tad humid. everyone is very friendly and can't do enough to help and keep me amused. I have two nights here and will try to get some audio asap. I'll be back in the UK on Tuesday.

Guide dogs, arm wrestles and washing machines. Dave thought he'd do a spot of podcasting from our place and here is the result.

We're in a taxi on the way to the airport to catch our flight north back to Brisbane.
This is the first of 2 tours around the facilities built for the 2000 Olympic games. Runs about 52 mins.
Followed closely by the tour of the
Telstra Stadium which runs about 46 minutes.

Auckland
Arrived early Tue and met Mel and Jon at the
airport. After a pancake breakfast we took a brisk walk along the beach at
mission bay. New Zealand is pretty cold at this time of year and on Tue
the high was about 12 degrees c. I checked into the New President hotel on
Victoria street, and wandered over to the Sky tower, the tallest building
in the Southern hemisphere. 200 nz dollars and half an hour later I was
195m above the city street preparing to jump. I don't know what it is
about nz and extreme sports but they seen to be pretty abundant here, and
with no shortage of tourists seeking their next thrill, experiences like
the Sky Tower jump are available 365 days per year. I wil post the vid as
soon as my laptop starts working again.
Tue
afternoon we visited a very windy One Tree Hill before grabbing some
icecream. Yeah I know it's winter here, but this was good icecream.
class="mobile-post">Wed, Mel and Jon took me on a mini wine tasting tour
north of Aucklamd, and later we visited a tremendous thai place for
dinner. We rounded the night off by dropping some money off at the Sky
City casino.
I'm now at Auckland airport about
to catch flight 139 to Brisbane Australia.
The
cool weather of the last few days was a nice contrast from Vegas, and one
never really feels cold in nz as the warmth of the Kiwis is second to
none. A very special thanks to Mel and Jon who have been my guides during
my stay in Auckland, cheers to you both. I'm sad to be leaving so soon,
but am excited to be going to australia. And with any luck I'll return one
day.

We're in Vegas Baby!
I've been in Las Vegas now for over a week and had very little time to post to this blog. The ACB covewrage has kept me pretty busy and most days I'm starting work around 7AM and finishing late. The ACB Radio volunteers have been fantastic and have really done the project proud. The AV team as the Riviera are fantastic, although the hotel itself can be difficult to navigate.
Outside of work, On Saturday eveing I visited with Jeff and his wife at their comfortable condo which is 6 miles away from my hotel. On Tuesday a group, mostly Floridians, went out for an awesome meal where I enjoyed a 24oz steak. And on Wednesday a small group of us visited the Star Trek exhibition at the Hilton.
I will record a podcast probably on Saturday.
